LinkedIn ↗

Karel De Kneef is the former Chief Security Officer of SWIFT — the critical financial messaging infrastructure used by more than 11,000 institutions globally. Over nearly three decades at SWIFT he was among the early voices raising the quantum threat as a strategic priority, presenting on post-quantum cryptography and championing crypto agility long before it reached mainstream security agendas.

Since leaving SWIFT, he works as an independent strategic security adviser through Karleef Cyber, helping boards and executive teams understand and act on emerging threats — with a particular focus on the post-quantum transition. He authored the foreword to Practical Quantum Mechanics™ and built the Quantum-Safe Readiness Assessment tool.

Why independence matters in this space

In a market where vendors benefit from selling solutions and timelines are genuinely uncertain, independent practitioner voices serve a different function. They help organisations make sense of the threat without the commercial filter.

🚫 No vendor funding

The research, the assessment tool, PQM, and PQF are funded by the practitioners themselves — not by vendors who sell post-quantum products or services.

✍️ Practitioner-authored

Everything published here is written by people who have led security programmes at scale, not by marketing teams.

🔍 Vetted methodology

The assessment methodology was developed by Karel De Kneef and refined through the Quantum Security Connection tabletop exercise series.
